In a split with the president she hopes to succeed, Mrs Hillary Clinton has expressed opposition to Arctic oil exploration.

“The Arctic is a unique treasure”, said Clinton on Twitter on Tuesday. “Given what it is that we know, it isn’t worth the trouble of drilling”.
Following the announcement, Clinton spoke out against such drilling on social media.
With the Fennica on-site, Shell has now fulfilled its responsibilities for amassing safety equipment at its Burger J well and is cleared to begin drilling to “total depth”, into oil-bearing zones deep below the ocean surface, BSEE officials said.
During a press conference at Camp David in May, Obama stated that “nobody is more mindful of the risks involved and the dangers” with Arctic drilling, provided his experience with Deepwater Horizon.
Clinton introduced her own 10-year climate plan last month, calling for the U.S.to produce a third of its electricity from renewables by 2027.
Shell declined to comment Tuesday on Clinton’s drilling position.
Indeed, groups that have criticized Obama for approving Shell’s drilling project have praised Clinton’s statement.
“We applaud Secretary Clinton for standing up for what science, the will of the American people and common sense demand”.
She added during a speech in Nevada, as reported by the New York Times: “I think we should not risk the potential catastrophes that could come about from accidents in looking for more oil in one of the few remaining pristine regions of the world”. Shell is eager to explore in a basin that company officials say could be a “game changer” for domestic production.
The final permit was given ahead of President Obama’s visit to the region.

In a tweet last night, she condemned the president’s decision to licence Arctic drilling that was he signed off earlier this week.
The U.S. Division of the Inside allow permits Shell to drill within the oil-rich Chukchi Sea off the northwest coast of Alaska. “It’s like a doctor diagnosing a patient but then refusing to write a prescription”, said Rebecca Noblin, Alaska director for the Center for Biological Diversity.
