The visit comes following several days of violence that has left businesses in flames and the Milwaukee police chief expressing surprise at the level of unrest.

Among those present were Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke and Inspector Edward Bailey.

Trump also posed for photographs with a handful of veterans, including one wearing a “Hillary for Prison” T-shirt.

Sylville Smith, 23, was fatally shot following a traffic stop in the north side of the city, where police said he fled the scene and was armed with a handgun believed to have been stolen in a burglary, although police have not yet commented on whether he fired shots.
