Hillary Clinton challenges Bernie Sanders’ health plan in the debate

“Sanders also took a swipe at Clinton by emphasizing his independence of wealthy political contributors”. He says, “Time and again across a long, and occasionally tetchy, evening, Clinton sought to use the President as a shield to guard against Sanders’s blows, and as a sword with which to try and wound her opponent”.

The Hillary Clinton campaign goes on air with its first Colorado TV ad Friday, joining her Democratic rival Bernie Sanders, who recently started advertising in the state.

“I am proud that I am the only Democratic candidate running for president that does not have a Super PAC”, he said. That’s when Clinton jumped in, saying, “I think that the best analysis that I’ve seen based on Senator Sanders’ plans is that it would probably increase the size of the federal government by about 40 percent”.

“Do senators have the right to disagree with the president?”

Clinton, looking a little surprised, had a ready comeback that cast doubt on Sanders’ qualifications on foreign policy, saying: “Well, I know journalists have asked who you do listen to on foreign policy, and we have yet to know who that is”.

Seeking to stem Sanders’ momentum, her campaign has argued that his appeal is mostly limited to the white, liberal voters who make up the Democratic electorate in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild is on the list of more than 60 leaders supporting Clinton.

Albright even received criticism from Sanders’ wife, who called her comment “unfortunate and disturbing”. She suggested his health care promises “cannot be kept “and will be far more costly than he admits”.

“We need fundamental police reform, clearly, clearly, when we talk about a criminal justice system”, Sanders said. “In my view healthcare is a right of all people, not a privilege, and I will fight for that”.

“People say that my vision for America, my ideas, are just too radical”, he said. “People aren’t dumb. Why in God’s name does Wall Street make huge campaign contributions?” he said, chiding: “I guess just for the fun of it, they want to throw money around”.

“So, let’s not in anyway imply here that either President Obama or myself, would in anyway not take on any vested interest, whether it’s Wall Street, or drug companies, or insurance companies, or frankly, the gun lobby, to stand up to do what’s best for the american people”, said Clinton.

“I feel very strongly I have an agenda, a record that does respond to a lot of the specific needs that the women in our country face”, she said.

Senator Sanders spoke about “the broken criminal justice system” and the 2.2 million Americans in prison, while “executives on Wall Street… pay billions of dollars in settlements and get no prosecution at all”. Sanders’s 22-point margin was one of the largest in the history of non-incumbent presidential primaries in the Granite State. She praised Obama’s commission on policing, his efforts at addressing systemic racism, and his policies toward immigrant refugee children. Clinton criticized Sanders for voting against a reform measure in 2007, which Sanders defended because of a provision in the bill for guest workers. Clinton on Thursday had a significant victory as she won the endorsement of the Congressional Black Caucus while Sanders is still struggling to gain support among minority voters. Both states have almost all-white populations.

Near the end of the debate, Hillary tried a different way of getting under Bernie’s skin: disagreement with the president.

“We are fighting for every vote that we can get from women, from men, straight, gay, African-Americans, Latinos, Asian-Americans”, Sanders said. “They want a political revolution”.
