Hillary Clinton: Colin Powell told me to use private email, report says

When asked why Clinton might have cited him in defending her email use, Powell said to People, “Why do you think?”

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has claimed that she told the truth to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) when she was interviewed last month about her private email server and her mis-handling of classified information.

Sullivan, in a 28-page order, ruled on a July 8 request by the conservative legal group Judicial Watch in a lawsuit probing whether Clinton’s private email setup thwarted public records laws from 2009 to 2013. “This is just another lawsuit meant to try to hurt Hillary Clinton’s campaign, and so we are glad that the judge has accepted our offer to answer these questions in writing rather than grant Judicial Watch’s request”.

The State Department says it is reviewing almost 15,000 previously undisclosed emails recovered as part of the FBI’s now-closed investigation into the handling of sensitive information that flowed through Hillary Clinton’s private home server.

Mrs Clinton must instead respond in writing within 30 days to questions submitted by Judicial Watch, a group that has always been critical of her conduct and which is suing the Department of State over Clinton-era records.

“This is just another lawsuit meant to try to hurt Hillary Clinton’s campaign, and so we are glad that the judge has accepted our offer to answer these questions in writing rather than grant Judicial Watch’s request”, he said.

Colin Powell made his first public statement since press reports indicated that Hillary Clinton told the Federal Bureau of Investigation that he had suggested she use a private server for her email.

Clinton has denied those allegations but says it was a mistake on her part to use a personal email.

Colin Powell, born on April 5, 1937, is known to be the first Afro-American to hold the function of Secretary of State, occupying this position from January 2001 until April 2005. “The Facebook story makes no mention of this or that Clinton’s shadow email system contained classified material, something Powell’s statement explicitly said he used a secure State Department computer to handle”.

Judicial Watch may depose Mr. Bentel by no later than October 31, 2016.

Powell’s office provided a statement Thursday in which he admitted a 2009 electronic exchange with Clinton highlighting some of the benefits of using a private email account that he had experienced while occupying the office she had just assumed. It was not immediately clear whether Powell’s email to Clinton was among the documents from its case file shared earlier this with select congressional committees at the request of House Republicans.

Clinton allegedly discussed email practices with her predecessor during a dinner after she became the top USA diplomat in 2009, The New York Times said Thursday. He also clarified that he used his personal email account only for unclassified messages. “The decision is a reminder that Hilary Clinton is not above the law”.
