Hillary Clinton: Donald Trump Owes President Obama ‘an Apology’ for Birther Attack

“I don’t talk about it anymore”.

“It was such an enormous distraction that after years of having served as president, the president actually went to the state of Hawaii and said ‘you know what, release my long-form birth certificate, demonstrate I really am an American citizen, ‘” Montclair State University Political Science Professor Brigid Harrison said. Imagine a President who sees someone who doesn’t look like him and doesn’t agree with him and thinks that person must not be a real American. “His campaign was founded on this outrageous lie”, she told the Black Women’s Agenda Symposium in Washington, DC. There is no erasing it in history”, Clinton said.

Trump, she alleged, “is feeding into the worst impulses, the bigotry and bias that lurks” in the country.

When did Mr Trump get involved?

After avoiding the issue for most of his campaign, Trump brought it back into focus avoiding a direct answer to a question in an interview to The Washington Post published Thursday. She promised not to let Americans forget it.

“These are in-your-face kind of efforts on the part of one man who is misusing the media in order to heap indignities upon the president of these United States”, Clyburn told reporters at a hastily assembled press conference with members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Trump said Friday morning he would make a statement about the birther issue when he spoke at his hotel.

Trump’s backtracking comes after his campaign suggested Thursday night it was the GOP nominee himself who helped to “bring this ugly incident to its conclusion” by prodding the president to release his birth certificate in 2011. After weeks of appearing to be more restrained and looking presidential Donald Trump is seeming to be back in cocky attack mode and slightly off message.

The confirmation is a response to the “birther” movement, which questions whether Obama was born outside the United States.

The facts of Trump’s actions do not match Miller’s description.

Yet Mr Trump has repeatedly stoked the issue in the years since Mr Obama released his birth certificate. In August 2012, for example, Trump was pushing the issue on Twitter.

Democratic Rep. G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina made the comments Friday shortly after Trump, who has been a leader of the “birther” movement for several years, made his statement.

From Washington, Euronews’ Stefan Grobe reported on the latest developments in the race for the White House.

“It is so hard to believe that it is less than two months to Election Day and that my family is nearly at the end of our time at the White House”, Obama said to cries of “No!” from the crowd in Fairfax.

After Trump’s brief statement, Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said “it was appalling to watch Trump appoint himself the judge of whether the President of the United States is American – this sickening display shows more than ever why Donald Trump is totally unfit be president”.

Miller’s claim that Clinton launched the birther movement during her unsuccessful primary run against Obama in 2008 is unsubstantiated and long denied by Clinton.
