Hillary Clinton gains national unions support
Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders this week introduced a plan to reform our immigration system.

Their biggest contributors include Haim Saban, who heads the Spanish-language Univision TV empire, and Saban’s wife, Cheryl, the newspaper detailed, calculating that the couple alone has made more than three dozen contributions totaling $2.4 million to support the Clintons’ races since 1992. In a Quinnipiac poll of Iowa Democrats released on Wednesday, 47 percent said they trusted Sanders most to handle the economy compared to 42 percent for Clinton.
Sanders supporters in Nevada held an immigration event on Tuesday at the home of local immigration activist Jackie Ramos.
The Clinton campaign says 60% of their donors are women, but the Sanders campaign says they have more.
At a Bernie Sanders rally on Sunday, the rapper endorsed the Vermont State Senator as the best of candidate to lead the nation on a “political revolution”.
In some cases, endorsements of Clinton by national unions such as the American Federation of Teachers and the machinists’ union have generated debates among members on social media.
Asked who has the best chance of winning, 85 percent named Clinton, but only 54 percent said Sanders, according to Quinnipiac.
Clinton has longstanding ties to many labor leaders, such as AFT’s Randi Weingarten and Tom Buffenbarger of the machinists.
Full-time minimum-wage workers would see their income go up $6,240 more under Sanders’ $15 an hour livable wage plan.
But even with growing expectations that Clinton will be the Democratic nominee, she is expected to need the help of union members in the general election campaign. “We are going to need everyone pulling in the same direction next fall.”, said Steve Schale, a Democratic strategist.
Sanders would press Congress, his campaign said, to change immigration laws if he was elected president and would seek a 5-year pathway to citizenship for people living in the USA illegally.
During a town-hall meeting in New Hampshire earlier this month, Clinton said she voted “numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in”.
“Establishing an immigration policy that stops the criminalization of communities of color and keeps families together will be a top priority of my administration”, Sanders wrote in his immigration plan. “She needs them to come to her side, and enthusiastically”, he said.

“When it comes to fighting the climate crisis, the stakes couldn’t be higher, and we are confident that Hillary Clinton is the right person for the job”, LCV president Gene Karpinski said.
