Hillary Clinton gets the ‘Between Two Ferns’ treatment

Zach Galifianakis’ online comedy Between Two Ferns snagged a pretty high-profile guest: US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The show has featured all kinds of big names from Justin Bieber to president Barack Obama in some hilarious and uncomfortable interviews, but the latest interview might have been the best.

Introduced by a caption as “Hillary Clinton [Had pneumonia]” – referencing the former Secretary of State’s recent health problems – Galifianakis asked if she was “excited to be the first girl President”. Galifianakis asked a stone-faced Clinton. “How does this work?”

After that remark, Clinton realized what she got herself into.

“Critics have often questioned your decision-making and by you doing this show, I hope, it finally lays that to rest”, Galifianakis opened the interview, to which Clinton replied, “Oh I think it absolutely proves their case”.

He also played a word from his sponsor, rolling a Trump campaign ad. After the former secretary of state said she was a big fan of President Obama’s 2014 appearance on Between Two Ferns, her campaign reached out to amusing or Die, and the rest is Web series history.

The host wound up the interview with a sly reference to the scandal that has dogged Clinton’s campaign – her use of a private email server while she was secretary of State, including for classified documents.

“How does Obama like his coffee?”

“We kind of went, ‘she had pneumonia?!,'” he said. Galifianakis asks. “Like himself?” “Or maybe like a white power tie”, Galifianakis said.

She replied she’d stay in the United States to try to prevent Trump from destroying the country – but that she wouldn’t take up arms against him.

At one point, Clinton angrily tells Galifinakis “don’t tell me what to say”, which although meant to be a joke doesn’t look like one. We should stay in touch.

The interview is better still when you learn that the majority of it is improvised.
