“No further comment at this time”.

In the emails, Powell admits to staying relatively quiet during Trump’s meteoric rise.

Former US Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright (L-R), Colin Powell and Hillary Clinton listen to remarks at a groundbreaking ceremony for the US.

You’ve never heard Colin Powell talk like this. Powell had served as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under the George H.W. Bush administration, and continued in that position for less than a year under Clinton’s administration.

“That’s what the 99 per cent believe”. When Trump couldn’t keep that up, he said he also wanted to see if the certificate noted that he was a Muslim.

Powell has also dismissed Trump’s claims that he could actually win the African-American votes or the women’s votes.

Trump is a national disgrace and an worldwide pariah.

“He appeals to the worst angels of the GOP nature and poor white folks”.

Of his comments, Powell told Buzzfeed News, “I’m not denying it”. His private correspondence shows that he, like many other Republicans, isn’t totally sold on Trump.

“You guys are playing his game, you are his oxygen.”

The Clinton campaign, eager to still get Powell’s endorsement, said nothing about the leaks, while Trump, as one had grown to expect, lashed out via Twitter. “Powell was harsher in an August 21 message to a friend and former aide, writing: “Well, their email ploy this week didn’t work and she once again looks shifty if not a liar”.

But in one 2014 e-mail released online, Mr Powell lamented that while he respected Mrs Clinton, he would “rather not have to vote for her”, describing her as having “a long track record, unbridled ambition, greedy, not transformational”.

When the FBI started investigating Clinton’s handling of confidential emails, Clinton had indicated that her practices of using a private email server had been used by Powell before her. Powell had publicly dismissed these claims, claiming that she was trying to pin the blame on him. They only mentioned Powell criticized Clinton, but didn’t quote anything.

Hillary, in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, took sole responsibility for her errors. Rice said she completely agreed.

Powell stressed that the entire home server drama could have been avoided if she came out and explained it two years ago. After it was reported that Clinton had told FBI investigators that Powell had advised her to use a personal address, he lamented that what he called her “minions” were “making a mistake trying to drag me in”.
