Hillary Clinton introduces ‘Val’ the bartender in ‘SNL’ season premiere
There was a nod to her problems connecting personally to voters and Clinton’s long-held presidential aspirations.

Clinton also did her best Donald Trump impression, which she’s known to do on the trail from time to time.
“So, Hillary”, Clinton asks McKinnon, “what brings you here tonight?” Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and speculation that Vice President Joe Biden (D) will enter the 2016 race. The seeming moral of the punchlines: Can anyone sane really vote for anyone but Hillary?
Elsewhere in the eventful episode, Miley and the cast of “SNL” cracked jokes about Lenny Kravitz’s recent genital exposure, Ariana Grande’s donut-licking saga and she even faked an orgasm in scenes reminiscent of “When Harry Met Sally”. The jokes were weak, but the real Donald didn’t seem to care.
But the night’s set piece was obviously the Clinton appearance.
Over the past month, Clinton’s been trying to recuperate from the scandal and show off her softer side with a string of lighter media appearances – a few more successful than others. Her line readings were natural, especially for someone so often accused of being robotic. The duo shared a fist-bump and finished off the sketch singing a “Lean on Me” duet.
“I love the impersonations of me….” “I’ve had a complex couple of 22 years”. “I could have supported it sooner”, she said. But SNL also tends to apply kid gloves to anyone that actually appears on the show.
McKinnon, it must be said, is a dynamo.
Clinton wasn’t the only person impersonating Donald Trump on Saturday night. Strong suggested she had imagined everything and walked off, while McKinnon found a tan business shoe on the floor proclaiming: “She is real”.
Ms Clinton, playing Val, served Ms McKinnon and sparred with the homosexual comic about Ms Clinton’s record on supporting same-sex marriage. It is Kate McKinnon, one of the “SNL” cast members, whom we will see to enact opposite Clinton. The camera soon cut to “Val” and the audience erupted at the sight of Clinton, in a starched open-collar shirt, offering soothing advice to her double, who ordered up a “scalding hot vodka”. “Oh, you’re a politician”, Clinton replied. Here, the take is much more apocalyptic.

“Oh Val, I’m just so darn bummed”, McKinnon’s character said.
