Hillary Clinton is vetting a former admiral as a potential vice-presidential nominee, two reports say. Stavridis served as NATO’s supreme allied commander for four years, managing operations in the likes of Afghanistan, Libya and Syria. “He has the talents, experience, judgment and temperament to serve the American people at the highest levels of our government”.

Clinton’s campaign declined to comment on the Times report that Stavridis is being vetted on the vice-presidential shortlist.

Stavridis also had been passed over the role of Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, amid an investigation for improper use of a military aircraft to attend a party in France. Fox News reported that the Pentagon’s Inspector General concluded that he did not misuse his office. Multiple outlets confirmed Trump is vetting retired three-star Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as a potential vice president, among other potential picks. In an interview with ABC News over the weekend, Mr. Flynn, a lifelong Democrat, seemed to stumble, offering his support for abortion rights a view out of lock step with Republican base orthodoxy. He called Flynn a “patriot” during a Times http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/13/us/politics/ruth-bader-ginsburg-donald-trump.html interview.

Trump, meanwhile, will also continue his public audition process for possible running mates Tuesday evening, when he is set to appear at a campaign rally in IN with Mike Pence, the states governor.
