But Sanders did his part, chastising those who have insisted they can never vote for Clinton, who will face Republican nominee Donald Trump in November.

Police briefly detained more than 50 people after they tried to storm the barricades outside the Democratic National Convention on Monday in a show of anger over Bernie Sanders’ treatment by party leaders, even as he urged his supporters to fall in line behind Hillary Clinton.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned as Democratic Party chairwoman on Sunday over leaked emails suggesting the supposedly neutral Democratic National Committee played favorites during the primaries by siding with Clinton and bad-mouthing Sanders.

Jaxon Ravens, the chair of the state Democrats, said he was “not at all concerned” by the dissension, and said the state’s delegation behaved respectfully, with most not joining in the boos Monday night. “Bernie!” in response to speakers praising Clinton.

Another Sanders delegate wearing a Marine Corps cap took a swing at a Clinton delegate before Secret Service officers broke up the fracas. “Because as a true public servant, Hillary knows that this is so much bigger than her own desires and disappointments”, she said.

“This election is about which candidate understands the real problems facing this country and has offered real solutions”, said Sanders. “My ability to sustain myself is on the edge”, she said. In May, Connecticut’s Quinnipiac University polled 1,561 registered voters across the U.S. on a theoretical Sanders/Trump match-up; 48 percent supported Sanders and 39 percent supported Trump. “It’s about our lives”, she said.
