Hillary Clinton needs convention bump as popularity slides
The Democrats have staged a masterful convention as a preamble for when Clinton steps to the podium to deliver her acceptance speech Thursday night.

3 of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, during an address in which he urged Americans to elect Hillary Clinton, President Obama again brought up the issue of “birth certificates”, a revival of the eligibility issue that has plagued his presidency since the 2008 campaign. Obama endorsed Clinton near the end of the caucuses and primaries, calling her the most qualified person ever to run for the White House. The election is on November 8.
Nevertheless, Obama sees a kindred spirit in the woman with whom he fought a bitter primary battle eight years ago. When he finished, she joined him on stage where they hugged, clasped hands and waved to the crowd.
Even when it became clear than Sanders couldn’t win the Democratic nomination, he refused to give up. That’s partly payback for Clinton’s loyal service as secretary of state during the president’s first term.
“As many times as he does it, he always seems to capture the moment perfectly and says the words that are in my soul”, said Rob McGuire, an attorney from Nashville and Clinton delegate.
What Obama was determined to do was create an optimistic and uplifting vision of America to contrast with what he and his party see as the dark and unsafe outlook of Donald Trump.
Thousands of delegates and guests packed into the Wells Fargo Center chanting “Yes, we can” and waving blue OBAMA signs. On Tuesday night, the Bernie or Bust brigades watched in dismay as Clinton became the first woman nominated for president by a major USA political party.
Kaine tells the Democratic convention in Philadelphia that he formally accepts the party’s nomination on behalf of his wife, Anne, “and every strong woman in this country”, their three children and everyone in the military. She should explain how these efforts will make Americans safer and how working with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies and engaging in the world is smarter than Trump’s isolationist approach.
“America is already great”. “Best president ever”, someone screamed.
He also mentioned his accomplishments over his two terms as president including Osama bin Laden’s killing, legalisation of gay marriage, an improved economy and diplomatic deals with Iran and Cuba, NBC News added.
He said American values, not race, religion or political preference, were what made the United States great. Yet in a scattershot news conference Wednesday, Trump tried to turn the table on Clinton, saying he believed it unsafe for her to receive national security briefings in light of her mishandling of classified information via email while in office.
RATINGS: Democrats had almost 5 million more viewers Tuesday night than Republicans did for the corresponding night of their convention last week.
Polls suggest she’s trailing Trump after the last week’s GOP convention. He had a 2-point lead over Clinton in a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Tuesday, the first time he has been ahead since early May.
Amid all the frenzy of a national convention, this was a moment of human connection between a proud older brother and a younger brother whose presidential run had secured 13 million votes, won 23 primary and caucus contests, brought nearly 1,900 delegates to this week’s convention, and forced the Democratic Party to embrace progressive platform planks and rules changes that might just democratize the Democratic Party.
To little avail. Sanders supporters shouted down speakers who urged delegates to support Clinton. Clinton has said those emails were private.
If she can mobilize a similar minority turnout from young African-American voters like Williams, it might blunt gains Republicans are hoping to make among working-class whites in states like Pennsylvania and Ohio. “That’s a bunch of malarkey!”
Clinton made a surprise appearance following Obama’s speech. “God help us”, said former NY mayor Michael Bloomberg, himself a billionaire entrepreneur and an independent whom Democrats called on to broaden Clinton’s appeal.
“I thought it was a hopeful speech – talking about where we are as America – that we’re not this disastrous, one day from the apocalypse country”.
“Trump has hammered Clinton as untrustworthy and cast America as a place where security threats abound and law and order are breaking down”.

Echoing the sentiment of the 1,865 Sanders delegates who cast their votes for the senator Tuesday night, the older brother said, “Bernard did not win the nomination, but you can not stop the movement that has begun here”.
