Clinton is expected to announce her running mate through a text message or Twitter, possibly as early as Friday when she has two afternoon events scheduled in Florida.
Though King issued only a brief statement praising Hillary Clinton’s choice of Kaine as her running mate – “He’s a great choice”, King said through a spokesman Friday night – the ME independent made clear in an article that ran Wednesday on The Daily Beast that he’s a big Kaine fan. Clinton has said she was looking for a running mate who was ready to help her govern and who did not need on-the-job training.
US Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speaks during a campaign rally with US Senator Tim Kaine, Democrat of Virginia, at Ernst Community Cultural Center in Annandale, Virginia, July 14, 2016.
Kaine, who Herzik described as a moderate Democrat, pushes the Democratic presidential ticket more toward the middle of the political spectrum, which he said could appeal to a large chunk of the 250,000-plus registered nonpartisans in Nevada who might be wavering on the GOP ticket of the “wild card” Donald Trump and “incredibly conservative” Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, he said. She called Mr Kaine by phone around 7:30pm local time on Friday to offer him the job, and he accepted, according to a campaign aide.
Steve Grossman, who’s helped lead Clinton’s campaign in MA and is a former Democratic National Committee chairman himself, said that based on his speech, Kaine would be ready to go if chosen as vice president.
Tim Kaine is a U.S. Senator from Virginia and former Governor.
Kaine was among the finalists for the vice president gig on Barack Obama’s ticket back in 2008, but ultimately lost out to Joe Biden.
The Republican National Committee dismissed the ticket as the “failed Democratic status quo”.
“I first met Tim Kaine in law school 37 years ago, and our paths crossed years later in Virginia politics”.
Kaine, 58, has been married to Virginia Secretary of Education, Anne Holton, since 1984, and they have three children.

Trump’s forceful promises to be the champion of disaffected Americans closed out his convention on a high note for the party. Kaine and Clinton campaigned last week in Northern Virginia as a tryout of sorts, and Clinton walked away impressed and comfortable with him as a partner. He noted violent crime has recently risen in some cities, but were not going to make good decisions based on fears that dont have a basis in fact.. Trump said that if he is elected, “safety will be restored” at home and overseas.
