Tickets for the evening reception at the home of City National Bank Chairman and CEO Russell Goldsmith and his wife Karen are $2,700, according to an invitation obtained by City News Service.
Mr Buffett, a long-time critic of America’s uneven taxation of rich and poor, listed statistics showing the widening income gap as he introduced Mrs Clinton at her first event in Nebraska.
He will also join Clinton at a private fundraiser. She further added that she supported Warren Buffet’s proposal that individuals earning $1 million per year should pay an effective tax rate of at least 30 percent. Her campaign said specifics of her tax plan will be released in phases over the coming weeks.
President Obama has consistently promoted the rule throughout his time in office, but it’s encountered stiff political opposition and has not been implemented. Speaking to a crowd of approximately 800 people at the Sokol Auditorium, Clinton said, “You might run into some of your friends and colleagues who’ll ask, ‘Where have you been, what have you done today?’ And if you tell them you came for a rally to me – to see me – yes, thank you”.
Appearing in Omaha, Neb. alongside Warren Buffett for who the rule is named, Clinton said it will be necessary to ensure a fair tax system.
“Get them to the polls on Election Day”, he said. “Campaigning with the third richest person on the planet is an odd way to communicate that she understands and cares about the needs of millions of Americans”.
It’s a promise that she says she is the only Democratic candidate to make.
