“He has failed to provide the public with the most basic financial information disclosed by every major candidate in the last 40 years”, a Clinton spokeswoman said of Trump.

Hillary Clinton revealed her tax return figures while Donald Trump still refuses to.

The latest return, 40 pages long, showed the Clintons donated more than $US1 million, or almost 10% of their gross income, to charity. The bulk of the couple’s philanthropic gifts went, of course, to the Clinton Family Foundation.

The Clintons even paid a higher tax rate previous year than the average effective federal tax rate of 33.4 percent for the top 1 percent of taxpayers.

The release on Friday is part of an effort to undercut Trump’s character by questioning the celebrity businessman’s record. Mike Pence, the IN governor and Trump’s running mate, has not made public his tax data during the campaign. A spokesman pointed to Clinton’s move to delete tens of thousands of personal emails from her private account as secretary of state and questions about whether she used her government post to benefit the Clinton Foundation. In some form or another, Clinton has made hers public for every year since 1977.

The Clinton campaign also released a video criticizing Trump for failing to release his tax returns.

At a Clinton rally last week in Omaha, Nebraska, Buffett, whose Berkshire Hathaway BRKa.N conglomerate is based there, challenged Trump to meet and exchange tax returns.

“Why should all the lawyers, accountants and doctors who run their income through partnerships be subject to a 15% rate because it’s considered business income, when if they just worked for a living it would be taxed at 33%?”

Trump has said he won’t release them until an IRS audit is complete.

Donald Trump speaks on the last day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, the United States, July 21, 2016.

Like Trump, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP White House hopeful, was hesitant to release his returns.

Mr Trump, a hotel developer with a fortune estimated to be in the billions, has refused to release his.

Tim Kaine and his wife Anne Holton’s tax returns – comes as the Democratic nominee has upped the pressure on her opponent, Donald Trump, to release his. They paid 3.6 million United States dollars in federal income tax, according to the document, which was posted on her campaign website.

That is as far as King was willing to go with Clinton; he was far more supportive of Trump, the NY businessman and Republican candidate for president.

And the couple also faced 2 of the tax bills imposed on high-income earners, the Net Investment Income Tax (NIIT) and the additional Medicare tax.
