According to the New York Post, the latest sexting scandal was at least the third publicly-revealed episode involving the former lawmaker.
Abedin, who has been referred to as Clinton’s “second daughter”, is the gatekeeper to the nominee.
Campaign officials had braced for fresh revelations about Weiner after the Post reported earlier this month that a Republican had baited Weiner into a sexual online chat.
He then sent an image of his torso, brandishing a bulge beneath his white boxer-briefs – and his son next to him. Her faith is a big part of that, as she has told friends and even Vogue magazine, and she knew it would draw headlines.
Weiner was with her and Jordan this weekend in the Hamptons, but left Monday morning. However on Monday, several news organisations distanced themselves from him.
“He’s quite the egomaniac”, she said.
Weiner has since remained in the public eye, commenting on politics on cable news shows.
“Huma is making a very wise decision”, the Republican candidate said in a statement on Monday.
Weiner told the Post that he and the woman “have been friends for some time”.
“It’s just another example of Hillary Clinton’s bad judgment, ” he continued.
But in what was seemingly the last straw, on Monday, The New York Post splashed the latest private communications of the former congressman on its front page, but this time, the couple’s child was drawn into the story.
“Anthony Weiner is on indefinite leave from the station”, a NY1 spokesman told CNN’s Dylan Byers.
The aide was one of a tiny number of people who had email accounts on a private server housed in Clinton’s suburban New York City basement, and was among those interviewed by the FBI in its investigation of whether classified materials were mishandled. His first unsuccessful run for NY mayor was in 2005.
The New York Times asked Weiner recently if he had sexted anyone recently. The press release, which was sent out to outlets including The A.V. Club, doesn’t mention this newest round of illicit texts or whether they’ll be addressed in in a new introduction or postscript to the film, but it does say that the film “offers unrestricted access into the life of former congressman Anthony Weiner and his family as they take on the 2013 New York City mayoral race in the face of an ongoing high-profile scandal”.
The Post, which did not completely identify the woman, said she provided 12 selfies from Weiner. The paper described her as a 40-something divorced woman from the West.
Mr Trump had previously said Ms Abedin was a security risk she might pass secrets on to her “sleazeball” husband. Abedin often travels with the Clinton campaign. She was her intern in the 1990s during the presidency of Bill Clinton and became a top aide while Hillary Clinton served as a senator from NY.
Abedin chose to stay with her husband at the time. Abedin is nearly always within steps of Clinton, and Clinton is nearly always on the road.
Yet Abedin nearly never speaks publicly, meaning her work for Clinton is opaque to voters. The couple’s marital problems worsened after the release in May of a documentary about the scandal that engulfed Mr Weiner’s campaign for mayor in 2013.
Weiner said he had undergone therapy after the first sexting scandal, according to media reports.
Two years later he was caught again, sexting with an aspiring porn star from southwest IN named Sydney Leathers. The leaked photographs were intended for a woman in IN under the pseudonym “Carlos Danger”.

The separation was announced after Weiner’s online exchanges with women had been a source of tension within Clinton’s presidential campaign.
