Hillary Clinton’s economic speech: Trump’s plan only benefits super-rich
The two speeches highlight the pitched fight for swing voters in the Rust Belt states crucial to winning in November.

While the millions of dollars Clinton has earned offers fresh fodder for Republican critics, her campaign believes those attacks are outweighed by the opportunity to raise questions about Trump’s honesty. University of MI economist Justin Wolfers said that by using a tax deduction rather than a refundable credit, Trump’s plan “effectively excludes all poor families”. It was laden with progressive proposals.
Under the Obama administration, we have already witnessed a shrinking middle class, lower wages and a 50-year low in homeownership, and yet these Republicans who support Mrs. Clinton effectively support the status quo.
Clinton said Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, would scrap regulations meant to hold corporations accountable, cut taxes on “millionaires and Wall Street money managers”, and eliminate the estate tax, an inheritance tax that generally hits the wealthy. “Because it sure is not America”.
Trump has also faced more controversy after claiming that President Obama is “the founder” of ISIS, and Clinton its co-founder.
Republican sources earlier this month said Priebus was furious over Trump’s failure to endorse House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan and his feud with the parents of a Muslim American soldier killed in Iraq.
With few exceptions, Mr Trump has provided more of a philosophical basis for an economic plan than specifics, although he did call for greater child care deductions for families.
In a press release, a union leader called Trump’s speech deceitful and offensive.
Hillary Clinton clearly dialed back her paid speaking activity past year. And in recent weeks, the Clinton campaign has shifted its gaze toward the other side of the aisle: At the Democratic National Convention, multiple speakers spoke wistfully of Ronald Reagan, while anti-Trump Republicans and independents announced that they were “with her” – for non-ideological reasons – in prime time.
Trump also called Obama “the founder of ISIS” for not leaving USA forces in Iraq and said that made Clinton “the co-founder”.
Only three days after Trump delivered his own economic policy speech in Detroit, Clinton ran through a number of policy proposals, from spending more on infrastructure to standing up to China and renegotiating a major free-trade agreement.
He is now behind Clinton in opinion polls, and many Republicans are alarmed that not only could the party lose the chance to win the White House but that Republican majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives could be at stake.
“Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine continue to set the standard for financial transparency as she releases her 2015 personal tax return and builds on the Clintons’ tradition of making their returns public since 1977 and Kaine releases 10 years of his returns”, said Hillary for America Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri.
Trump said he had no intention of changing his inflammatory approach to presidential politics, pledging in a CNBC interview to “just keep doing the same thing I’m doing right now”.

Her appearance follows Trump’s own speech on the economy, which he also delivered in MI on Monday. We had dinner together recently.
