Hillary Clinton Said Nothing About the Economy in Her Speech

After Clinton completed her speech, Obama was all praises for her and posted a message for Hillary on his official Twitter handle POTUS. However, there is far too much to lose if progressives use this election as the platform for rejecting the Democratic Party for the DNC’s age-old issues.

“We don’t look to be ruled”, Mr. Obama said, in his most scathing attack on Mr. Trump, naming him several times. Before she took the stage Thursday, mainstream media was calling the Democratic National Convention a great success, while the TV ratings at the DNC have exceeded the GOP’s overall.

It didn’t help that when asked by PBS, halfway through the convention, about Hillary Clinton’s trouble attracting white working-class males, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said: “I think so many times white, non-college-educated white males have voted Republican”. On T.V., Clinton delegates waved “stronger together” posters, but on the floor their delegations more often than not were like ships in the night passing at uncomfortably close range.

She reached out to supporters of her rival, Bernie Sanders, who could be crucial to getting her over the line in November. And to the rest of the world, it was a plea for unity in the fight against extremism, global warming, and anti-democratic forces.

Democrats contrasted their optimistic, policy-laden message with the dark vision and lack of specifics that marked Trump’s speech during the Republican convention a week earlier. But that’s nothing like the nominee herself owning up to her mistakes clearly and without looking sneaky or defensive, and then contextualizing them in her long history of public service and hyper-responsible behavior. She says that party organizers scuttled plans for a Sanders surrogate to speak on his behalf from the convention floor.

Kaine took a swipe at Trump for his business record, credibility, Trump University and his proposals to build a wall along the Mexican border, saying Trump “has a habit of saying the same two words right after he makes his biggest promises – ‘believe me'”. It’s also important that she keep Green Party candidate Jill Stein from becoming a real temptation to lefty voters. She spoke to the cheering crowd about the need to unite to deal with the nation’s challenges. The good news for Clinton is that Trump is seen even more negatively by the public than she is.

Clinton didn’t miss a chance to go after her opponent. Chelsea Clinton’s appearance comes after her father, ex-President Bill Clinton, gave a deeply personal address about his wife Tuesday night. Clinton and other Obama advisors wanted to train and arm some opposition groups, but Obama declined, though he relented after she left his Cabinet, with the Central Intelligence Agency delivering weapons to some groups starting in 2013. That’s the portion of the Obama coalition she needs to worry about most. Republican doom and gloom was countered by Democratic rosiness. Clinton will accept the nomination Thursday night.

The week began with a bang: the forced resignation of the party chair, after WikiLeak-ed emails revealed a bias for Clinton within the Democratic National Committee. There are some Sanders supporters who used the Sanders campaign as a vehicle for their Clinton hate.

But supporting speeches, no matter how well-timed or well-written, don’t win elections.

The caller – speaking about Sanders – says “he’s not a Democrat”. “I believe in science”, she continued, to laughs.
