Hillary Clinton has chosen Virginia Sen. Bernie Sanders – were not as pleased with the selection of the Virginia senator who has cultivated a reputation of working across the aisle over the course of his political career. The former Virginia governor and current Senator brings a wealth of experience in foreign policy, executive experience and electoral politics to the Democratic ticket.

Progressive Change Campaign Committee co-founder Stephanie Taylor said in a statement that some of Kaine’s pro-free trade positions gave “Republicans now have a new opening to attack Democrats on this economic populist issue” that Republican nominee Donald Trump has also been vocally opposed to.

Clinton and Kaine, meanwhile, will appear at Florida International University in Miami. The exact same logic applied to Clinton’s reason for selecting Kaine eight years later, only he’s now experienced and has now spent time in Senate. The aide spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the private deliberations over her selection.

It wasn’t an easy decision. That’s also when Clinton will formally become the first female presidential candidate from a major party in the history of the U.S. Refinery29’s News team is on the ground covering the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention.

Then Governor McAuliffe, a democrat and longtime friend of Clinton would need to pick an interim successor. Kaine endorsed Clinton early in the primary and campaigned for her in several states. The information on potential running mates was delivered in a bag from Duane Reed, a NY drug store.

He and Clinton share support for a number of issues, from a no-fly zone in the air over Syria to gun control, education, health care and a tax overhaul. Sherrod Brown or Massachusetts Sen.

Liberal groups have pressured Clinton to avoid Kaine, who backs the Pacific free-trade deal known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Mr Kaine was a finalist to be Barack Obama’s running mate in 2008 and served as Virginia governor before his time in the Senate. Along with the email scandal dogging Clinton, the perception that she’s beholden to Wall Street and Clinton Foundation donors will still be nipping at her heels. “Virginia is a better Commonwealth because Tim Kaine served as Lieutenant Governor, Governor and Senator and this country will be a stronger nation when he is our Vice-President”. Cory Booker or California Rep Xavier Becerra in hopes of attracting voters Trump had alienated, reports The Hill. Her short list included Warren, two Latino cabinet secretaries and New Jersey Sen.

Clinton campaigned for Vilsack in his 1998 comeback victory as Iowa governor, and he later stood by her through her hard 2008 presidential campaign. Kaine asked in Annandale, Virginia, as Clinton nodded. Kaine was attending a fundraiser in Newport, Rhode Island, for the state’s Democratic senator, Jack Reed. Taking the call in a shipyard office, he quickly accepted.

Before making the official announcement, Clinton called the other candidates she was considering to let them know her decision. She plans a formal announcement on Saturday.

The 58-year-old senator swiftly tweeted his response, saying: “Just got off the phone with Hillary”. John McCain’s two sons were in the Marines and Navy, while his running mate, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, had a son who was in the Army Reserves.
