Iowans view both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders favorably and remain split on them in the race for president.

“The media is in error when they lump superdelegates with pledged delegates”, said Sanders at a press conference on Saturday in Los Angeles, California. In California, Clinton leads Trump 48% to 33% among likely general election voters, while Sanders leads 55% to 32%. “In other words, the Democratic National Convention will be a contested convention”, he said.

That last statement represented a rhetorical escalation.

Her total delegate haul includes superdelegates, party officials who are unbound and can switch their support at any time.

Hillary Clinton has scored a sweeping win in the U.S. Virgin Islands, picking up all seven pledged delegates at stake as she inched closer to the Democratic nomination. Few Sanders voters in either state say they’d back Trump at this point, and most will vote for Clinton, come November. It’s – you know, I love New Jersey.

Trump, appearing on CNN, responded to Clinton’s attack.

Sanders argued at his Saturday rally that he consistently fares better against Trump than Clinton does.

But Sanders also has a number of advantages. Barack Obama with almost 68 percent of the vote. In California, independents, who are officially referred to as “non-partisans”, are eligible to vote as long as they registered by May 23rd.

“That is not to say he [Sanders] can’t pull it off, but this may be the biggest voter mobilization challenge California has seen in many, many years”, Schnur told the Los Angeles Times.

Melinda Jackson, a political science professor at San Jose State University, said young voters Sanders has drawn into the political process this year could benefit the Democratic Party, whose registration has ticked up in recent months.

In Los Angeles County alone, nearly two hundred thousand voters have registered since the start of the year, and more than sixty per cent of them were under the age of twenty.

Christie endorsed Trump shortly after he ended his campaign, and his political team helped Trump secure the preferred line on the ballot for Trump with locally endorsed candidates in most of the state, including Bergen and Passaic counties.

These figures augur well for Sanders, as does some of the recent polling data.

“The only enthusiasm that matters is showing up to the polls”.

Both polls were conducted May 31-June 3, 2016 for the CBS News 2016 Battleground Tracker.

Later in the day, a raucous crowd of more than 1,400 in Fresno started chanting “Hillary, Hillary”, when Clinton mentioned her speech. These figures raised the question of who is genuinely likely to turn out.

Thursday morning in San Diego, as Clinton supporters lined up under a Spanish-colonial breezeway to hear her foreign policy speech, one of her campaign’s nightmares unfolded: Sanders supporters were linking up with those protesting her on behalf of Trump.

Sanders stopped by a charity “Pedal on the Pier” fundraiser, telling people riding on stationary bikes that the USA should have “an economy that works for all people, not just the one percent”.

Sanders has been in California for weeks, traveling in a bus across the state to headline dozens of rallies and forums. Clinton, however, remains the forecasters’ favorite.

Sanders, as elsewhere, outperforms Clinton against Trump, up 55 to 32 percent in California, and slightly better in New Jersey, 52 to 34 percent.

Sanders reiterated that Clinton voted for the 2003 invasion of Iraq while Sanders opposed the war.

Clinton has repeatedly apologized for using a private server but has stressed that none of the information she sent over it was classified at the time. “President Obama and I voted for it, and Sen”. “I think if I am not the nominee – and we’re going to fight to become the nominee – it is Secretary Clinton’s job to explain to those people why she should get their support”.
