Hillary must become President: Sanders

The chants of “Bernie! That’s what Donald Trump wants”, Sanders said in the email.

“Hillary did not pack up and go home”. “She is looking at creating opportunities for Americans, not dividing people and fanning their fears”.

“Hillary Clinton will make an outstanding president, and I am proud to stand with her tonight”, the Vermont senator told a cheering crowd Monday night at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center. It’s not even about polls or campaign strategy, he said. “If that’s reaching out, it’s political thumbs put in the eyes of Bernie Sanders supporters”.

And then she declared that she was “with her”. Rhetorically, at least, die-hard Bernie Sanders’ supporters also are breaking some glass, loudly protesting his treatment by the party and still cold to Clinton even as Sanders appeals for Democrats to unify and defeat Republican Donald Trump, “a bully and a demagogue”. “I served with her in the United States Senate and know her as a fierce advocate for the rights of children”. “As if Hillary Clinton needed another reason to sweat”.

During a night marked by acrimony, Obama was not immune from boos.

The opening day of the four-day convention in Philadelphia was dominated by boos and jeers from disgruntled supporters of Mr Sanders nearly every time Mrs Clinton’s name was mentioned.

Michelle Obama speaks during the convention, a rare moment when the crowd was united in its adulation. Sanders talked about “the 40-year decline of our middle class” (40 years that include the presidencies of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama), called American inequality “grotesque”, and said America was moving “toward oligarchy”.

“That is the story of this country”. “I hope you take enormous pride in the historical accomplishments we have achieved”, he said. “And I watch my daughters, two handsome, intelligent, black young women, playing with their dogs on the White House lawn”.

The mood began to shift after ME delegate and state Sen.

“This is the Democratic Party”, Smoot said. Plus, Sanders had gotten Democrats to embrace progressive ideas like universal health care and college education.

“Her resignation opens up the possibility of new leadership at the top of the Democratic Party”, Sanders said, adding that the leadership should be made up of “people who want real change”.

He said he would vote for Sanders on the floor, and would still not commit to supporting Clinton in November.

So they continued to loudly boo and chant “Bernie, Bernie!” as Silverman continued her speech. Al Franken – standing next to Silverman – joked, “Listen to what you did”.

The crowds replied: “Bernie!”

“As the night went on, we saw a party grow stronger”, SC delegate Boyd Brown said after the first day speeches. One of the only variations was a loud assurance than his voters would be able to express their true presidential preference formally, during a roll-call vote on Tuesday.

“We are a family”, Honda said. But that was not to last.

“It was over 100 degrees on the first day of the Democratic convention”. Elizabeth Warren drape the mantle of leftism over her because it means she at least is wearing some kind of mantle – rather than a sandwich board that reads “liar” on the front and “violator of national security” on the back.

Connecticut’s delegates pledged to Sanders were split about the protests. She has always been a focus of criticism from Sanders and his backers for her apparent bias in Clinton’s favor.

Earlier in the day, Sanders had a meeting with his delegates in which he delivered a similar message. “Bernie won the election, but they stole the votes”. That somehow we need to make it great again.

Sanders’ stage time was something the senator from Vermont had been aiming for since the beginning of the end of his drawn-out candidacy.

Clinton has actually come out against the TPP, although it was a full flip-flop from her previous support for it while secretary of state.

Because, as Bernie has always told us, this isn’t about him.

Early in the proceedings, Democratic National Committee officials offered a “deep and honest apology to Senator Sanders, his supporters and the entire Democratic party for the inexcusable remarks made over email”.
