Hillary Rodham Clinton’s rousing speech makes Donald Trump look like a novice

Ms Clinton, who has been the secretary of state, first lady and a Senator from NY, secured her nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia after a majority of the 4,764 party delegates formally backed her. “He wants to divide us from the rest of the world, and each other”, Clinton said.

Cohen said comments such as those from Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, who said that Clinton would seek to fix parts of the deal after winning the general election, aren’t helpful. “Instead, help Donald Trump hold her accountable, call out her lies and fight back against her nasty attacks”. “And I do mean odd”, Clinton said, adding that he offered “zero” solutions. “So maybe we’ve got kind of a high point of the campaign now and then it will taper off just a bit between now and Labor Day and then get going again”.

“I will work with, and appoint, the best and brightest prosecutors and law enforcement officials to get the job done”.

Clinton was welcomed with loud cheers as she entered the arena and embraced her daughter Chelsea, who introduced her as the next President of the United States.

“She’s not Bernie”, he said. “I am voting for a woman who has spent her entire life fighting for families and children”, said Clinton, who serves as vice chair of her family’s foundation. That is the story of America.

“Anyone reading the news can see the threats and turbulence we face”. He’s betting that the perils of today’s world will blind us to its unlimited promise. “Yes, America’s destiny is ours to choose”. She described her mother as “driven by compassion, by faith, by kindness, a fierce sense of justice and a heart full of love”.

DW’s Richard Walker had noticed earlier there were plenty of Bernie Sanders supporters in the room, eager to make a statement.

Clinton’s four-day convention began with efforts to shore up liberals who backed Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary and it ended with an outstretched hand to Republicans and independents unnerved by GOP nominee Donald Trump.

They included Khizr Khan, the father of Muslim soldier, Capt. Humayun Khan, who died while serving in the US Army in the years that followed the September 11 attacks in NY.

Eric Aldrete, from Arizona, said he ranked the speeches this way: “Michelle, Barack, Bill, and Hillary”.

After the divisiveness of the Trump campaign, and the spate of gun violence in places such as Orlando, Clinton projected herself as the epitome of steady leadership to a nation that is looking for reassurance. Typically, a Democrat wins the state with a large vote advantage in Philadelphia and its suburbs and in Pittsburgh and the southwestern area to overcome the vote for Republicans in the central and northern areas.
