Ms Clinton, who has been the secretary of state, first lady and a Senator from NY, secured her nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia after a majority of the 4,764 party delegates formally backed her. “He wants to divide us from the rest of the world, and each other”, Clinton said.

After the divisiveness of the Trump campaign, and the spate of gun violence in places such as Orlando, Clinton projected herself as the epitome of steady leadership to a nation that is looking for reassurance. Typically, a Democrat wins the state with a large vote advantage in Philadelphia and its suburbs and in Pittsburgh and the southwestern area to overcome the vote for Republicans in the central and northern areas.
