Hillary ‘surprised’ by staffer using personal email
Thomson ReutersU.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton listens to her introduction at a campaign event in Sioux CityWASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department has long failed to produce complete and timely records in response to public information requests, its independent auditor said as the department released its latest batch of emails related to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

While the previous releases contained unintentionally humorous material about printing all emails and struggles with the fax machine, this round of messages revealed how Clinton dealt with mistakes by her staff, policy suggestions and family members contacting her during the Benghazi crisis. “Just because something, a document, is on a classified system doesn’t necessarily make the document, the content, necessarily classified”, Kirby said. “Generally speaking, I can say that just because a document is sent via a secure method doesn’t mean that it’s classified”.
In State Department jargon, a “nonpaper” is an informal document without official markings, which is not saved for official records, according to AP.
“In the latest batch of Hillary Clinton emails released by the State Department on Friday, she expressed surprise that a department staffer was using a personal email address”. The nation’s intelligence community “won’t stand” for anyone getting away with deliberately mishandling classified material, and it’s preparing for its own revolt, if Lynch refuses to prosecute, he said.
The federal public records law “neither authorizes nor requires agencies to search for federal records in personal email accounts maintained on private servers or through commercial providers” such as Gmail or Yahoo, the report stated. Clinton invited her daughter to call, saying she is in the office late because of attacks on US facilities in Egypt and Libya.
Brian Fallon, a spokesman for the Clinton campaign, said, “The Department had a preexisting process in place to handle the tens of thousands of requests it received annually, and that established process was followed by the Secretary and her staff throughout her tenure”.
All but one of those documents contained material later determined to be “confidential” level, and one was labeled “secret”.
Washington (CNN)An independent watchdog responsible for overseeing the State Department issued a new report Thursday that says there are significant problems in how the department handles requests for information from the public, and that some information held on private servers or in private accounts are being missed. After senior adviser Jake Sullivan emailed her about “issues sending secure fax”, Clinton suggested he turn it “into nonpaper w/no identifying heading and send nonsecure”. “They’re working on it”, Sullivan wrote.
While her Democratic primary opponents have mostly declined to use the private server against Clinton, Republican candidates have been using every opportunity to paint her as untrustworthy and unlawful. Was her instruction actually carried out?
The State Department has noted that this requirement alone has heavily taxed its personnel resources. If so, has the Federal Bureau of Investigation opened a criminal inquiry into these circumstances?
