Himachal Pradesh becomes 4th state to ratify GST Bill

With this, the state has become the fourth after Assam, Bihar and Jharkhand to ratify the bill.

State Assembly session was called to ratify the Constitutional Amendment bill on GST. Calling it a single biggest tax reform he said it would help in trade, services and commerce.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday chose to convene a special session of the assembly on September 1 to ratify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, which was passed by Parliament earlier this month.

Khandu, in his 70th Independence Day speech, had announced that the state government was committed to implement the GST regime in the state as per the guidelines and norms fixed by government of India. “From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, there will be barrier free flow of goods”, said chief minister Raman Singh said.

He hailed Narendra Modi-led NDA government for achieving the uphill task of passing the long-pending legislation in Parliament.

“The Congress was in favour of the bill”, the Chief Minister had said, adding “In fact, the UPA government had brought this bill”.

As Virbhadra Singh, who holds the finance portfolio, introduced the GST Bill for ratification, the BJP members returned to the house. “Our only concern is that the interests of Chhattisgarh should not be compromised by the framework of the bill”, Leader of Opposition in the assembly, TS Singhdeo, said. “We were only given oral assurance, nothing on paper”.
