After calling the police action “unwarranted and unfortunate”, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking action against Delhi Police.
Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta was arrested by police on Wednesday evening on an apprehension of causing a breach of peace and tranquillity, two days after his complaint about beef being served at Kerala House here sparked a row.
The police said they responded immediately to the complaint to prevent any “untoward incident”. “Whatever, Delhi Police should have shown restraint and consulted officials concerned before checking the premises for beef dishes”, the Kerala CM said at a press meet in Kozhikode, as per the New Indian Express.
However, in the light of the events yesterday, Kerala Bhawan has temporarily taken buffalo meat off its menu.
The complaint was reportedly made by an activist of the Hindu Sena. He alleged that the raid was a “deliberate attempt to please somebody” and also to trigger fear in the minds of people.
“Kerala House is not a private hotel”.
Mamata tweeted: “I strongly condemn what happened in Delhi at Kerala Bhavan”. A large number of Delhi-based Keralites and visiting politicians, including CPI(M) Politburo member Massachusetts Baby, visited the canteen and consumed the meat. – as a symbolic protest against the the raid.
The raid itself was denied by Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi, while Chandy and the Karala Bhawan canteen staff denied serving cow meat – a food item banned in Delhi and several other states. More damningly, whose agenda is the Delhi police being asked to serve, the citizens’ or the Hindutva brigade’s? However, he said, “Kerala is ready to take a moderate view if mistake is admitted”.

It turned out that Kerala House canteen only sold buffalo meat dish, called “carabeef”, not beef. “We make it very clear that buffalo meat will be served in Kerala House as long as the rule of law permits”.
