After the speech, Clinton’s campaign seized on the remarks. He said gun rights advocates “should be involved in the political process and let their voice be heard”, according to the Associated Press.

Greg Gutfeld got a little snarky after he said this kind of thing puts pressure on Trump’s strongest defenders.

It was not entirely clear what Trump meant in his brief and vague aside, and he has often claimed that such remarks are mere jokes.

Many took the statement as a threat of violence against Clinton, and the Democratic presidential nominee quickly fired back with a statement.

Mr Trump’s remarks come after eight days of negative headlines, controversial remarks and some leading Republicans saying they can not vote for him in November’s presidential election.

But second amendment supporters at Blackstone Shooting Sports in Charlotte said they interpreted his remarks much differently.

However, Senator Chris Murphy in a series of tweets alleged that Trump had given an assassination threat to Clinton.

“2nd Amendment people have awesome spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power”.

Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement, “This is simple – what Trump is saying is unsafe”.

Trump’s campaign seemed quick to clarify that Trump was speaking about the Second Amendment supporters’ voter influence. “Unstable people with powerful guns and an unhinged hatred for Hillary are listening to you, [Donald Trump]”.

The US Secret Service made an ominous statement hours after Donald Trump suggested it was okay to shoot one of their security protectees – Hillary Clinton. “And this year, they will be voting in record numbers, and it won’t be for Hillary Clinton, it will be for Donald Trump”, Senior Communications Advisor Jason Miller said in the statement.

The Republican presidential nominee made the comment on Tuesday at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina. The faces of those in the crowd said it all when the Donald came out with his comment.

The U.S. Secret Service, charged with protecting both nominees, said on Tuesday evening that it was “aware” of Trump’s comments, but the agency did not comment further.

Clinton’s campaign called the comments “dangerous”. Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks said then that neither Trump nor his campaign agree with Baldasaro’s comments.
