Historic Climate Change Agreement Reached in Paris

Rather than prescribe some common emissions target, the negotiations took a “bottom-up” approach, with nations each submitting their own emissions pledges.

“In short, this agreement will mean less of the carbon pollution that threatens our planet and more of the jobs and economic growth driven by low-carbon investments”, Obama said.

There were also drive-killing penalties, and Randy Bullock missed a field goal and an extra point. -PASSING OFFENSE: A. The Pittsburgh Steelers were victorious in Week 15, as they handed the Denver Broncos their 4th loss of the season.

Modi also had bilateral talks with US President Barack Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelines, and agreed their nations would work closely in fighting climate change.

No other quarterback has three five-touchdown games this year, and only Russell Wilson has two. That won’t be easy to accomplish, but at this point, it’s hard to bet against Cam Newton.

US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said that the Paris Agreement showed that the world was “ready to move towards an innovative era of reductions in heat-trapping emissions that will put us on a path to avoid the worst impacts of climate change”. That is, to reduce the rise of global temperatures to well below 2°C even as efforts are made to further limit that increase to 1.5°C.

Other terms of the deal include monitoring of progress every five years from 2023, targeting greater emissions cuts and reducing global average temperatures increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. But, they need to be small enough to be able to remove greenhouse gases successfully from the air. Scientists believe that more considerable temperature rises may lead to irreversible consequences for the planet’s environment.

“The problem’s not solved because of this accord, but make no mistake, the Paris agreement establishes the enduring framework the world needs to solve the climate crisis”, he said.

Recent months have gone down in history as some of the warmest months on record around the world, according to NOAA. The agreement was reached a day after the talks were scheduled to close, with many representatives working through the nights to reach a deal. Since then, the effects of climate change have become increasingly apparent.

However, environment protection organisation Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) called the deal “weak and unambitious” as it erases the historical responsibility of the developed countries.

Turning to the agreement itself, the Secretary-General said negotiators reached “solid results on all key points”, with an agreement that demonstrates solidarity and “is ambitious, flexible, credible and durable”. But the agreement has transparency rules to help encourage countries to actually do what they say they will do.
