History made as Clinton secures US Democrats’ White House nomination
Much of what Sanders supporters held against Clinton – her support for free trade, late backing of gay marriage and criminal justice reform – were positions of the Clinton administration. Back in June, when it became clear that she had enough delegates to win the nomination, Clinton acknowledged the milestone. The roll call will continue through the full roster of states and territories.

Maryland Democratic Sen. Barbara Mikulski and Georgia Rep. John Lewis will formally nominate Hillary Clinton for the presidency on Tuesday night, PBS NewsHour’s John Yang and NPR’s Mara Liasson report.
In June, Sanders said on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, “I don’t think Hillary Clinton can lead a political revolution”.
Clinton, who promises to tackle income inequality and rein in Wall Street if she becomes president, is eager to portray former reality TV star Trump as too unstable to sit in the Oval Office. “They were very excited and expressive of themselves. It’s going to be spectacular”, Pelosi told CNN’s Dana Bash. She cited a bill that she sponsored as a state legislator in 2013 and worked on with Gov. Paul LePage to address government ethics.
The roll call goes by states, in alphabetical order, with no indication that leaders will rearrange the order so New York, Clinton’s home state, can cast the deciding votes.
“That’s not the plan”, Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said.
At least one national opinion poll showed Trump benefiting from a convention “bump” and pulling just ahead of Clinton, having lagged her for months. But as the formal vote to elect the party’s nominee approaches on Tuesday night, many other Sanders have gone unnoticed: the quiet ones.
Bernie Sanders: “I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee of the Democratic Party for president”.
Clinton has said more taxpayer money needs to go to the Planned Parenthood abortion business and Clinton demonstrated her unyielding commitment to abortion and the Planned Parenthood abortion business, accepting their endorsement during a pro-abortion rally – saying she would be the abortion business’ president.
While the Republican convention in Cleveland last week was hardly an orderly, unifying affair, with a mini-rebellion on the convention floor, a divisive speech by Texas Sen.
Clinton has dropped “presumptive” from her list of adjectives and is now the Democrat’s Presidential nominee.
This year, the Clinton campaign and the candidate herself appeared determined to apply the lessons from her defeat eight years ago to her second White House bid, running a notably different campaign.
Clinton’s campaign hopes to use the achievement to bolster her popularity – mindful that while many voters are happy to be nominating a woman, they’re not wild about this particular one.
Clinton also is tapping her entertainment connections. “Or that hearing Chelsea Clinton speak will give me compassion for her”. The experience of becoming a grandmother, in particular, seems to have softened Clinton as a candidate, helping her become more comfortable grounding her candidacy on her personal background and family story.
Bill Clinton, president from 1993-2001, draws the admiration of many in the party, but carries some liabilities.
Unity and coming together is the focus for the Democrats in Philly Tuesday, especially in light of Monday’s calamity with party chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz heckled and booed because of leaked emails showing the party orchestrated primary elections in Clinton’s favor.
The history of the moment was referenced often by delegates. “And I’ll remember it that way”.
Yet, hours before the speech, Sanders sent a text to supporters and declared, “I ask you as a personal courtesy to me to not engage in any kind of protest on the floor”.
This time, Clinton shattered the glass ceiling she couldn’t crack in 2008.
In Philadelphia, Sanders supporters have been vocal in their opposition to Clinton in the aftermath of the emails’ release.

“We obviously have strong activists both for Bernie and for Hillary”, said Phil Bartlett, chairman of the Maine Democratic Party, who spoke from Philadelphia in a phone interview.
