This caucus was conducted under the traditional caucus rules of the Indiana Republican Party- all voting members voted by secret ballot, all votes were counted in the presence of watchers.

Republican leaders chose Holcomb Tuesday over other candidates such as U.S. Reps.
Rokita and Brooks will not seek the vacant lieutenant governor position, but will return to their congressional districts.

“We. can not allow our state to slip, drift go backward to those days of debt and delayed payments”, Holcomb said.
“This year. has taken many twists and turns, but I’m ready to answer this next call”, Holcomb said.
In an interview with the Associated Press Gregg offered congratulations but said he remained focused on “cleaning up the mess that’s been made” by the “the Pence-Holcomb administration”.
Gregg said his focus is on Hoosier family wages and jobs, claiming that Holcomb, “wholeheartedly embraced the failed approach that embarrassed our state, cost us jobs and has left the middle class behind”.
Pence picked Holcomb after his 2012 running mate, Sue Ellspermann, resigned in March, and endorsed him for governor last week.
When Gov. Pence withdrew his name from the gubernatorial race on the deadline to withdraw from the IN ballot, Holcomb withdrew his own name from the ballot and announced his desire to run for governor.
State Republican Chairman Jeff Cardwell declined to release vote totals, but former Fort Wayne City Councilman Mitch Harper said on Twitter that Holcomb came within one vote of the necessary 12 votes on the first ballot, then won the nomination on the second. “Eric Holcomb is just another out-of-touch ideologue who will hurt the middle class and undermine Hoosier values”. It is a unique time in our state’s history, and I want to thank all four candidates who put their names forward to serve as our next Governor.
Sen. Dan Coats congratulated Holcomb on his selection and said he is the best person to serve as the next Indiana Governor.
“The only way we continue Indiana’s progress is by joining together, which we’ve done today”, Holcomb says. He said Rokita would have been a great choice for governor, but so is Holcomb.
“Indiana has had huge success balancing their budget and I think, obviously, he’s done an extremely good job as the governor of Indiana”, Pierson said. “But I’m not going to sacrifice my core principles”.
The state committee will meet again on August 1 to choose a candidate for lieutenant governor.
