And it is that time of year again, when millions get out on the roads so they can make it home to give thanks. The average for the Chicago metropolitan area was $2.13 a gallon, while the state average sat about $2.01.

The holidays, Thanksgiving especially, are notorious for less than pleasant air travel experiences due to a variety of factors.

“The low prices do appear to be leading people to rethink how far they’re driving, and more people are willing to drive farther”.

Part of the expected increased travel can be attributed to the lowest Thanksgiving-week gas prices in seven years.

For the seventh straight year, Thanksgiving travelers in Georgia and around the country can expect more holiday traffic than the year before.

Lines are expected to be much longer this year because of a record number of flyers, and increased security after the Paris attacks and Russian plane bombing.

Those who need to fly could see airfares 10 percent lower than this time past year, according to AAA’s Leisure Travel Index.

Thanksgiving Day gas prices are expected to dip to their lowest levels in IL since 2008, but motorists might want to hit the pump before they enjoy their turkey spread rather than after it, one expert advised Tuesday.

“There’s limited competition out there…more gas stations is what really drives prices down”, he said.

Compared with a year ago, American drivers are saving almost $265 million on gasoline for their cars every day, AAA says. Oil prices averaged $40.82 last week, the lowest weekly average since August. Nationwide, the price was $2.09 per gallon, according to the automobile club’s Fuel Price Index.

“The good news is customers are saving money from where they were in June and July”, Griffin said.
