Holly Holm Stuns Ronda Rousey With 2nd-Spherical Knockout

Many are still wondering what happened at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia after Holm played the role of Buster Douglas to Ronda Rousey’s Mike Tyson, knocking out the reigning bantamweight champ in the second round of the main card.

Holm dropped Rousey to the mat with a left kick to her neck and seized the opportunity with multiple punches to Rousey’s face before the referee mercifully stopped the fight.

Holm and Rousey won fight of the night, each earning a $50,000 bonus. Holm broke off to an angle and delivered a clean left head kick to the jawline that rendered Rousey unconscious.

“I don’t know…I’m trying to take it in…it’s insane, isn’t it”, an emotional Holm said when asked for her initial reaction to the victory.

“I saw the good stuff”, said Bredy.

“Everything we worked on presented itself in the fight”. But hard as she tried, Holmes always managed to get away and keep the fight upright. Rousey’s face was reddened within the first exchanges and her striking defense went out the window as she became obsessed with keeping a high pace on Holm.

This isn’t the first time two fighters have gotten in each other’s faces before a bout (see Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, for example), but it’s not what you might expect from Rousey.

With the win, the 34-year-old Holm ups her unbeaten record to 10-0; the 28-year-old Rousey falls to 12-1. According to UFC President Dana White, Rousey was brought to a hospital for treatment of her injured lip which was reportedly split in half.

But Rousey made a decision to box with Holm, which turned out to be a mistake considering Holm would win the opening round in what was essentially a fist fight. She was thought to be the Jon Jones of women’s MMA and many thought that last night’s fight will also go the beaten path and will produce the same old result that we have been accustomed to. Holm was a heavy underdog coming into the fight. “I told her that fake, sweet act – I see right through it!”

Rousey to Holm: “I'm Going to Show You on Sunday Why I'm the Champion.”
