A giant opaque tent shrouded the red carpet – lined with Stormtrooper mannequins and neon lights that resembled giant lightsabers – and workers put the finishing touches on the setup hours before the film’s first showings to a select group of Hollywood elite. A large roar almost shook the building for Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, who, upon entering the theater, waved to costumed stormtroopers and “Star Wars” fanatics along Hollywood boulevard.
There are now about 1,000 people on the planet who have already seen “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
The TCL Chinese Theatre – formerly known as Grauman’s Chinese Theatre – hosted the premiere for the first Star Wars movie in 1977.
The force was strong in Hollywood today as celebrities hit the red carpet for the world premiere of the long-awaited new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens.
Security was ramped up with a huge visible police presence in the wake of the San Bernardino terror shootings.
But there is a very vocal, hard-core fan base that is thrilled with the prospect of “The Force Awakens” precisely because – judging from trailers and online buzz (the movie has not been previewed) – it appears to be not like the last three movies.
The movie will be released publicly on Friday, with some expecting it to become to break box office records.
Here are some of the more memorable things that happened during the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” premiere.
Peter Mayhew, who played the lovable Wookie, excitedly tweeted a photo of Harrison Ford when he finally arrived and walked on the red carpet.
The best dressed of the night: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who came in full Yoda makeup!
Harrison Ford reflected on the impact of the film and the role that catapulted him to superstardom.
Those eager to read reviews must wait until Wednesday when a media embargo is lifted.
He said:”It was a slow burn, but I knew it would never go away”.
Star Wars creator George Lucas was spotted laughing and chatting with director and co-writer JJ Abrams.
