Home Celebrity That awkward moment when Steve Harvey had to correct ‘Miss
“I have to apologize”, Harvey said after walking back onstage at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino while Gutierrez – who’d already donned the Miss Universe crown and sash – took her first walk as the victor.

Steve Harvey made a huge mistake during the Miss Universe pageant by announcing the wrong victor as the Miss Universe.
A visibly stunned Miss Philippines was then called on to the stage again and Miss Colombia was unceremoniously de-crowned, creating one of the most embarrassing moments in the history of live shows. Last year’s Miss Universe, Colombia’s Paulina Vega, then removed the crown from Avrevalo’s head and placed it on Wurtzbach instead. She was awarded the crown and flowers.
To make matters worse, Harvey took to Twitter and stated, “I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia”. Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, the contestant from the Philippines, had won.
“I have to apologise…” Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, was the actual victor. Awful mistake, but I can show it to you right here.
“Let me just take control of this, ‘ Harvey says while holding up the results card with the winners clearly printed on it. “This is exactly what is on this card”.
The mixup happened at the show’s high intensity climax, with host Steve Harvey dramatically declaring Colombian Adriana Gutierrez the victor.
“OK folks… I have to apologize”, he told the crowd.

Speaking to the press, Wurtzbach was gracious about the incident, saying backstage that it had been “a very non-traditional crowning moment…it is very 2015”, Reuters reported. “The first runner-up is Colombia”. “I hope that you can forgive me”, he wrote. “Miss Universe 2015 is Miss Philippines”. As well as the wonderful contestants. The pageant was owned by Donald Trump and NBCUniversal until earlier this year.
