Home draw leaves Puel frustrated

Claude Puel admitted it was two points dropped for the second time in as many home games at the start of this season as Saints were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunderland at St Mary’s.

The first half ended 0-0, but could have been different had Charlie Austin or Dusan Tadic have done better.

“In all the games we’ve played this season, against Watford, Manchester United and again today, we have had many opportunities to score and that is a good sign for the future”. And he’s got that ability to score out of very little.

“I am happy for Jay to score this afternoon”.

“It is a better result [than a defeat] for us just before the global break, but it still feels like two points lost”.

Puel was unsure whether referee Lee Mason made the correct decision in awarding Sunderland a penalty after Jose Fonte brought down Jermaine Defoe.

“It’s a shame because Defoe no problem, it was not risky and it was very hard to take this penalty at the end of this game before any situation”.

“It’s important but for the moment it’s disappointment for us”.

“I’ve always said, first and foremost concentrate on my club football and then see what happens after that”.

“It is also important that we keep working and are aware of the good things that we are seeing on the pitch. He’s a really good finisher, he’s been carrying a bit of a thigh strain so we just need to check to see he’s OK”.
