Home ice is not a big advantage in first round of playoffs
The Flyers kept elimination from the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs at bay when they beat the Washington Capitals a night earlier, but they realize the challenge to win the Eastern Conference best-of-seven series remains hard to overcome.

There was a scary moment in the first period when Washington defenseman John Carlson checked Flyers forward Scott Laughton near the left faceoff circle at the 16:11 mark of the first period.
Flyers forward Scott Laughton was taken off the ice on a stretcher during the first period of Game 4 against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Center. The team announced he would remain overnight for precautionary reasons. Laughton regained consciousness and appeared to have use of his hands, but he was taken off on a stretcher and sent to Jefferson Hospital.
Mason was tremendous in Game One, had an otherwise decent Game Two ruined by allowing a 101-foot goal that has become one of two lasting negative images of the series so far, and was strictly so-so in Game Three. “We’ve got to get back to attacking the net more”. The Wild’s power play had a 6-on-4 for 90 seconds to close out the game and could not capitalize… For now, let’s take it one game at a time and give the Capitals 110% on Friday, they’re going to need to give it all they have and then some.
That meant playing with structure and order, something they managed to do by not taking a penalty until late in the second period. I think it’s safe to say the majority of fans in Philadelphia think the actions of a few were very bad and inexcusable. It might be more interesting to hear how parties involved felt. I hope he’s fine, but I don’t know.
For at least one more game, the Flyers have life.
But Flyers coach Dave Hakstol turned to him to try to turn around the series.
The Flyers killed both Capitals power plays on the night, although the second one was only 28 seconds long.
“I believe in myself”, said Neuvirth, who had played in just two games since March 3.
SAN JOSE, California (AP) ” Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski scored power-play goals in the second period and the San Jose Sharks again moved to the brink of eliminating the Los Angeles Kings from the playoffs.
The Flyers’ other goal was scored by Andrew MacDonald.
Prior to puck drop last night, the Washington Capitals had a 3-0 series lead against the Philadelphia Flyers.
“Unbelievable”, Simmonds said of Neuvirth’s performance. Kuznetsov hadn’t scored in the series to that point, but he accepted the gift and worked a pretty deke around Mason for a 3-1 lead. For the third consecutive game, Giroux was held without a goal, without an assist and without a significant impact. “I think it set the tone”. Colin McDonald, called up Sunday from the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, was inserted into the lineup in his place and played on the fourth line…. Once the puck is dropped, it does not matter who is there, you just have to play.

The Flyers led 1-0 in Game 4 at the time of the injury. However, Capitals players weren’t mooning for the camera and laughing about the ease with which they dispatched the Flyers through the first three games. Those wristbands were used in a pregame tribute to Flyers founder Ed Snider, who died last week after a two-year battle with cancer. Capitals D Brooks Orpik sat out because of an upper-body injury….
