Investigators used Facebook to determine that Hartzag was living in a homeless camp near Dalton shortly after the New Castle Police Department reopened the cold case in October.

Police say Hartzag was on the run after Joseph Braun was killed in New Castle County in Delware on July 1, 1985. After the interview, New Castle investigators obtained a warrant for her arrest on a charge of murder during the commission of a felony, and the Dalton Police Department charged her on a fugitive from justice warrant to hold her until arrangements can be made for her return to Delaware.

Braun’s auto was stolen and recovered in Philadelphia, Setting said.

But police got no where on the case, until 1999.

That year, two men came forward and said they believed a relative had committed the crime with his girlfriend. Investigators learned Hartzag was arrested in Philadelphia in 2001, which helped them to positively link her to Braun’s home and his vehicle, but they were still unable to locate her. The investigation led detectives to Dalton, Georgia, where Hartzag was finally taken into custody on Wednesday. Hartzag has been charged in connection with Braun’s death. The tip also connected Hartzag, the suspect’s then-girlfriend, to the scene of the crime. She is now being held in Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office as she awaits extradition. She’s been charged as a fugitive from justice and is facing murder, robbery and conspiracy charges.
