Bombings in NY and New Jersey over the weekend – as well as the discovery of several unexploded devices – have led authorities to believe there may be a terror cell at work in those two states, law enforcement officials told CNN Monday.
Bollwage says the Union County bomb squad’s robotic device indicated the package the men left near the train trestle could be a live bomb.

Federal authorities believe that the explosion in Chelsea, where another explosive device was found nearby, was linked to as many as six explosive devices found just outside NY in Elizabeth, Homeland Security officials told Reuters.
Two law enforcement officers were wounded in the gunfight, as was Ahmad Khan Rahami, a 28-year-old naturalized USA citizen who lives in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
The raid in Elizabeth came hours after an explosive device left near a train station there blew up when a bomb squad robot cut a wire on the mechanism.

Bollwage went on to add, “I’m extremely concerned for the residents of the community, but more importantly extremely concerned for everyone in the state and country where someone can just go and drop a backpack into a garbage can that has multiple explosives in it with no timers and then you have to wonder how many people could have been hurt”.
No one was injured in the Saturday morning explosion along the route of a running race in Seaside Park, about 60 miles (97 km) south of Manhattan, New Jersey State Police said. Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage said the device exploded shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday.
In the video, the man leaves the duffel bag where police later found the unexploded pressure cooker. By Sunday, 26 of the injured who had been admitted to hospitals had been released.
NJ transit and Amtrak trains were held while special units investigated the reported devices.
Authorities are still investigating whether that bombing is linked to explosive devices found nearby in Manhattan and in two sites in New Jersey.
Law enforcement had been examining a device near the Elizabeth train station.
NYPD and FBI Bomb technicians rendered the device safe.
“We do not have any specific evidence of a connection, but that will continue to be considered”, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said. The FBI was working to disarm the other four devices.
“He could be armed and unsafe”, de Blasio said, warning that residents should be vigilant and report sightings to authorities. Furthermore, he said that there was no evidence of a link to the incident in New Jersey earlier on in the day.

The Department of Homeland Security is actively monitoring and participating in the investigations in NY and New Jersey.
