Twenty-one-year-old David Hillis of Akron surrendered to police there Monday and was charged with voluntary manslaughter for fatally shooting 25-year-old Marcus Glover on Aug. 7.
Hillis was in his home with two other people when two burglars broke in. Hillis fired shots and killed Glover as he ran away. Glover was found dead not far from the home.
When police went to Hillis’s house, his father David, himself a former police officer, attacked cops and had to be wrestled to the ground, Cleveland.com reports.
“Self-defense is an affirmative defense but people have a duty to retreat when they’re outside the home”, Akron Deputy Chief Prosecutor Craig Morgan told The Plain Dealer.

Investigators say the problem is that Glover was fleeing the scene and was chased by Hillis and shot down the block. Tart is in Summit County jail.
