Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2008-2009 Honda Accord vehicles manufactured January 22, 2007, to June 30, 2008.

The automaker says at least 19 injuries have been reported from airbags deploying when they weren’t needed. According to Honda, the glitchy software can mistake a forceful door close or an under-body impact as a vehicle crash, thereby deploying the side seat and/or side curtain airbags.

Nineteen people have filed injury claims with Honda because of the problem. Vehicle owners are encouraged to take their affected vehicles to an authorized dealer.

The problem is being blamed on the programming of a sensor in the door.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will update the air bag control unit software, free of charge. Honda’s number for this recall is JV4.
