Honduras reports first death from Zika-linked syndrome

The Kentucky Department of Health says it has confirmed the state’s first case of the Zika virus.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Pregnant women in NY whose sexual partners have recently traveled to countries impacted by the Zika virus can now get free tests for the infection. He says one woman service member who is pregnant was transferred out of the region as a precaution.

For information and advice, the ministry launched a toll-free telephone number: 080 100 47 47.

“Consequently, at elevations above [6,500 feet], the risk for mosquito-borne exposure to Zika virus is considered to be minimal”, researchers from the CDC said in a report published today (March 11).

The Forsyth County Health Department is working with the state, doctors and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help with testing and diagnosing people who’ve come from areas of widespread Zika virus. Health officials say the man is expected to make a full recovery. The list has grown to about three dozen destinations, most in Latin America or the Caribbean. The best way to prevent the virus is to prevent mosquito bites.

The Zika virus is spread thought bites from a specific mosquito.

Symptoms can include rash, red eyes, fever and joint pain.

Typically, infections will only cause minor illnesses, but the virus has been linked to a spike in a birth defect called “microcephaly”.

“Women who are pregnant in affected countries or travel to these countries are understandably deeply anxious”, Dr Chan said.
