Residents of Melbourne enjoy another year in the world’s most liveable city, according to the 2015 Global Liveability Ranking the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Hong Kong has tumbled 15 rungs to 46th place in a world ranking of livable cities after increased concern over social stability.

Melbourne, Australia, took first place for the fifth consecutive year. So if you’ve been thinking about moving, now you know where to go.

The EIU survey, released twice a year, assesses the living conditions in 140 cities based on 30 indicators across five categories – stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

“Seven of the top ten scoring cities are in Australia and Canada, with population densities of 2.88 and 3.40 people per sq km respectively”, said the report.

Melbourne scored a 97.5, just two-and-a-half points shy of a flawless score.

Five years ago, Vancouver topped the global list, Toronto was fourth and Calgary was fifth.

No American city was able to crack the top five, while the least livable city on the list is Damascus, Syria. In fact both cities can still lay claim to being in the top tier of livability where few, if any, aspects of life are restricted. Paris, France showed up at 29 and London, England was number 53 on the list.

But elsewhere, there’s been a marked deterioration in previously stable regions, such as Europe and North America, caused by events such as The Charlie Hebdo attacks in the heart of Paris and race-fueled civil unrest in a number of U.S. cities. The report explained how the rankings were determined.
