The new measures give the lie to Obama’s claim a month ago that the only alternative to his military strategy was putting “large numbers of USA troops on the ground”. He argued that the Islamic State “does not speak for Islam”.

But while his speech was definitely necessary, its impact was not as great as Obama would have hoped and America has dealt with Obama long enough to know that his promises might not necessarily be fulfilled.

Obama has urged stricter gun laws following the California shootings, but like previous mass shootings, those calls have met resistance from gun control opponents. He also wants to block those on the “no-fly terror watch list” from buying guns.
That’s not to say Americans are defenseless.

It’s time Obama leaves his fantasy belief in mythical global warming and its connection to terrorism as the most important issue facing America. The U.S.is at war. While Obama made a valiant attempt, his speech did not accomplish his goal comforting Americans and could have been much more impactful had he presented an actual plan.

Typically, the president delivers Oval Office addresses from behind his desk. It remains to be seen whether Obama can maintain this stance if there is a significant escalation of the Islamic terrorist threat.
