Hope Solo not bothered by ‘Zika’ crowd chants at Olympics

So it’s not all that surprising that Solo is getting dissed, is it?

Understandably, several athletes dropped out of the tournament while others voiced concern and adopted protective measures before leaving for Rio, for instance, one British Olympian even made a decision to freeze a sample of his sperm over Zika fears.

As the New York Daily News reports, the chants were loud with related jeers of “Zika!”

Solo also said she had spoken with “three different infectious disease doctors and specialists” before making the decision to participate in the 2016 Olympic Games.

“I wish people would understand that I did my due diligence before coming to Brazil”, Solo told Sports Illustrated. By now, it is well known that the Zika virus particularly affects pregnant women or those women who intend to get pregnant. She took heat – from her teammates and others – for criticizing her coach’s decision to bench her in favour of Brianna Scurry for the 2007 World Cup semifinals, which the US lost.

But X-rated website PornHub is taking a more hands on approach in the fight against the spread of Zika. It was something very serious to me because I do want to start a family.

Hope Solo’s Twitter drama followed her to the soccer field. The France game will be in the same venue and the same kind of treatment can be expected. She also shared a few tweets in July, further advertising her Zika fears.

The photos have attracted nearly 13,000 comments – many of them abusive posts from unhappy Brazilians.

Last summer in Canada, Solo’s teammates, led by Carli Lloyd, rallied around their keeper. The league has until December 31 to come to an agreement with the team, which might not be likely, as the league says the women’s claims are unfounded because their salaries are paid under a different collective bargaining agreement than the men’s.

Entering the tournament as hot favorites after winning the Women’s World Cup previous year, the Americans were rarely troubled in their Group G opener and cruised to victory thanks to goals from captain Carli Lloyd and star forward Alex Morgan. She and her teammates are being treated like crap.
