Hopkins, Novak lead Texans past Chiefs

So far their plan is working perfectly. It was a small bit of revenge for the team who knocked out of last season’s postseason.

Reid continued to toe that line Monday following a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that said Charles is expected to make his debut Sunday against the Jets.

The Tennessee Titans were able to score 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to steal a 16-15 win against the Detroit Lions, while the Houston Texans never trailed in a 19-12 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rookie Will Fuller impressed yet again, gaining 104 yards on four catches.

The problem with the Texans offense isn’t so much Osweiler, who looks like the ideal fit for coach Bill O’Brien’s scheme. But what our defense did to allow us to stay in the game, like I said, it’s truly incredible. “He says he felt like he made a lot of improvement last week”. We had a couple interceptions, but overall I think we won the turnover battle basically.

Peters learned that wagging your finger in the face of an opponent like NBA Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo did after blocking a shot is frowned upon on the NFL.

The Chiefs dropped a bunch of passes, quarterback Alex Smith threw several more behind his intended targets, and penalty flags piled up like dirty laundry at the end of the week. He’s a pretty good player and you can rush yourselves, but we’re not playing tiddlywinks here.

Still, Osweiler said he thinks the production in the red zone will be something the offense will continue to focus on after watching the tape of Sunday’s game.

“He’s a competitive kid”, Reid said.

And it did not get better in the third quarter, either. The Chiefs were held to only four field goals, and J.J. Watt looked more like himself with 1 1/2 sacks and fumble in his second game after back surgery without any training camp. In actuality, the most breathtaking play from Hopkins didn’t even count for anything, but probably should have – a catch in the back of the end zone in which Hopkins was ruled out of bounds both in real time and after review. The Texans could not take advantage of the good fortune as Kansas City intercepted the Houston signal caller to thwart the drive.

Houston was leading by seven in the second quarter when Spencer Ware fumbled, Kevin Johnson scooped it up for his first career recovery and returned it 52 yards. Not only had Ware not fumbled in the National Football League, he said that he only fumbled twice in college and that he didn’t lose either of those balls.

“Just absolutely zero rhythm and production going in that first half”, Smith said. “That is something that we don’t condone and it’s not acceptable”. The game wasn’t ideal, but it was still a win and there were plenty of positives on both sides of the field. The fact that all three games have been in Houston adds to the oddity.

“If I just protect the football with the way our defense is playing right now, with the way [Shane] Lechler’s playing, the way our running game is going – good things are going to happen for this football team”, Osweiler said. He was sacked four times and seemed to hesitant to throw.

Linebacker Brian Orakpo had two sacks for the Titans’ defense, which also got an interception from cornerback Perrish Cox. So I’ve got to get there a step faster.

Asked what would convince Reid to play him Sunday, the coach replied: “You make sure he’s safe”.
