Carlos Tevez has apologised to Ezequiel Ham after breaking his leg in a tackle during an Argentine Primera Division game on Saturday.

The Boca Juniors star was widely condemned for the stamp on the 21-year-old Ham’s shin. The Argentinos Juniors midfielder broke his leg after a tackle from Tevez at the weekend.

Ham was removed from the field on a stretcher in some distress but Tevez was not punished despite the severity of the injury sustained in the 50-50 challenge.

“[The accusation] makes me angry because I went for the ball”, he said in a TV interview. I’ve never hurt anyone, this is my first time.

Ham has taken to his Instagram page to post a picture with Tevez at his bedside, with the caption: “Thanks for coming, Carlitos!”

The touch told me I’d done something wrong.

Tevez managed to avoid even getting a booking, and after the match he apologised, saying that there was no malice in his attempt to win the ball: “I’m sad because I didn’t want to do anything bad to him”.

Jonathan Calleri made it 3-1 just before the final whistle to seal the win for Boca, who lead the 30-team table with 55 points from 25 games and are five clear of San Lorenzo. You’re the bigger man, Ezequiel.
