Uttarakhand BJP legislator Ganesh Joshi, who brutally thrashed and injured a police horse, is a “danger to society” and he must be sacked both from the legislature and the party, prominent global animal rights group PETA said on Tuesday. A political party should not vent its frustration on a hapless animal in this manner. “I did not hit the horse”, he said.

“We are sad that the horse’s leg is broken but these allegations are baseless”.

Meanwhile, Joshi is being severely criticised on social media for showing cruelty to an animal.

Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date said that a case has been registered against BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi and others who were part of the protest.

BJP workers led by senior party leaders including former chief ministers Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank and Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, tried to force their way through the barricades put up on the way to the Assembly, prompting authorities to use water canons to disperse them.

“In the video footage that is being circulated, you can clearly see that there is sufficient distance between me and the horse”.

Apart from other Congress leaders, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat too rushed to see the horse and condemned the BJP leader’s actions.

The BJP MLAs waved a CD in the Assembly to show the innocence of Joshi.

“I was holding the stick because the horse stepped on one of our workers and the worker is now hospitalized”.

Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi was accused of beating the horse with stick during a party’s protest march in the state yesterday.

Moreover, Joshi was tapping his stick against the ground in front of the horse whereas injuries were caused to its hind leg, Bhatt said, claiming Joshi’s innocence. He also said the government is going to bear all the expenses for treatment of the animal.
