Hosmer, Perez lift AL to 4-2 All-Star Game win
According to the Angels, Trout is the first AL player to get a hit in each of his first five All-Star games, joining NL stars Joe Morgan, Willie Mays, Steve Garvey, Carlos Beltran and David Wright.

Hosmer earned the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award for his 2-for-3 batting, including his home run, two RBI and run scored.
The Royals didn’t have to wait 27 years for another home run.
A historically youthful batch of all-stars showed promise.
Nearly 45 minutes after departing the game, Cueto moved through the bowels of Petco Park, stopping in front of a throng of media for a brief postgame interview.
This arrangement began in 2003, and in the first 13 years, the winning league in the All-Star Game produced the World Series victor nine times, including six of the past seven years. Last season, they won both games at home against the Mets.
So many storylines intersect on evenings like these, and they do not always find a neat denouement in the final score. Just before this first pitch, commissioner Rob Manfred joined Rod Carew, his family and the family of late Padres great Tony Gwynn and named the batting titles after the two Hall of Famers, giving Gwynn the NL honor and Carew the AL championship. Rodney, who closed for the Mariners in 2014-15 before his release, also retired first-time All-Star Saunders on a pop to short.
It was Boston slugger David Ortiz’s 10th and final All-Star Game.
And if the Chicago Cubs really believe they’re going to win that first World Series since 1908, they’re going to have to do it the hard way, starting the World Series on the road.
Two batters after Hosmer’s home run in the second, Perez clouted a two-run homer. “I just wanted…to see a couple of pitches, let my nerves soak in and take it from there”, Hosmer said.
Ortiz left the game when manager Ned Yost put in a pinch runner.
Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs homered to open the scoring. We have 16 guys who are first-year All-Stars. They don’t even play defense.
In his first season with the Giants, Cueto got the call to start on the bump in the Midsummer Classic at San Diego’s Petco Park.
Hosmer finished two-for-three with two RBIs.
“First pitch was a changeup”.
Carlos Gonzalez singled to center in his first at-bat in the third inning and finished the game 1-2.
Of local interest, St. Louisan Max Scherzer tossed a ideal inning for the National League in the sixth. “But you have to be able to execute”, said Yost.
With one out in his second inning, National League starter Johnny Cueto, a former member of the Royals, tried to quick-pitch Eric Hosmer. And, just as Hosmer was about to do an in-game television interview following his home run, Perez, a teammate of Hosmer’s throughout the minors, too, did the same.
Corey Seager, reserve shortstop: Struck out to lead off the seventh inning; made an error in the bottom of the inning.
There is your MVP moment and player right there!
Hosmer was the game’s MVP. The 1978 and 1992 All-Star Games were played at Jack Murphy Stadium in the Mission Valley section of the city. Scherzer worked a scoreless inning. Royals players went 3 for 5 overall and drove home four. Ultimately, the American League got the better of the National League. He then hugged his teammates as they came out of the dugout to embrace him.
