One hostage was killed as a result of an attack in a church in France’s northern Normandy region on Tuesday, French media reported.

They rushed into the place of worship at Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, in Normandy, during a morning service, soon after 9am.

Saint-Etienne du Rouvray has a population of 30,000 and is around seven miles from Rouen.

TV pictures show police have blocked off the roads around the church and paramedics are at the scene.

The attackers have been “neutralised”, added the police source said, adding that one of the hostages have been killed.

French police have reportedly shot the hostage-takers dead, after elite police units stormed the building.
