Hostess is Bringing Deep Fried Twinkies to Your Kitchen

To eat the deep-fried Twinkie, you just need to pop it in the oven or fry it because they’ve already been battered and partially fried before freezing. Taking a cue from years of fair vendors plunging Twinkies into hot oil, Hostess is debuting frozen Deep Fried Twinkies at Walmart this summer.

Fried Twinkies have been a thing for a while, but now they’re a thing that’s going to be on store shelves near you on a regular basis.

The Deep Fried Twinkies will be sold at Walmart outlets for three month, the AP noted.

HOME PREPARATION: Pull it out of the freezer and bake it for six to eight minutes in the oven at 350 degrees.

The new frozen item will set you back $4.76 for a box of seven, and each will add 220 calories to daily intake. After that, they will be available at other stores. The deep-fried original golden version has 9 grams of fat and 220 calories, nearly doubling to the regular version with four grams of fat and 130 calories. “We’ve seen the rise in popularity of deep-fried Twinkies on dessert menus across the country as well”, Hostess VP of marketing Ellen Copaken told the AP.

The deep fired version, also, unsurprisingly contains more fat and calories than a regular Twinkie.

LIMITED-TIME TWINKIES: In December, Hostess teamed up with Wal-Mart on a limited-time mint-chocolate flavored cake.
