“Normally, we have spots where we can kind of focus, but looking at the weather pattern and winds, there’s lots of areas we’re anxious about during these Santa Ana winds because they’re blowing pretty much everywhere”. These conditions will result in critical fire danger.

Temperatures in local valleys will be in the triple digits, downtown Los Angeles could see highs in the mid-90s and the mercury will soar into the mid 80s at the beaches. Humidity is expected to hover between eight and 12 percent, the National Weather Service said.

A fire weather watch for the mountains and the San Gorgonio Pass, where winds will ramp up to 25 to 30 miles per hour with gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour, will be in effect from 5 a.m. Sunday through that evening. They also said fires could spread rapidly due to the scorching temperatures, low relative humidity and gusty winds. Daytime highs will be about 10 degrees above normal on Sunday, and up to 15 degrees above average on Monday.

Forecasters say the winds could pick up more strength on Sunday night and early Monday.
